Mirtha Legrand hospitalized with a respiratory condition

Mirtha Legrand, 99, was hospitalized on Sunday night after several days of respiratory symptoms that people around her initially associated with a severe flu. The symptoms prevented her from hosting her television program, and her doctor decided she should be taken to the Mater Dei sanatorium in Palermo for closer monitoring.

Legrand is staying in a room on the clinic’s third floor. Doctors diagnosed bronchitis and continued carrying out tests while treating the condition. No family member made a public statement, but people close to the television star confirmed the hospitalization and said her general health was fairly good.

The symptoms followed a busy stretch of social activity during the winter. Medical advice had limited her to a maximum of three outings a week, but in the final week of August she attended three events in succession.
