Miss Jamaica reappears after severe fall at Miss Universe pageant

Dr. Gabrielle Henry, Miss Jamaica 2025, made a triumphant return to the stage on August 23, 2026, at the national coronation gala in Kingston. She appeared months after a severe fall during the Miss Universe international pageant in Thailand, which led to a lengthy recovery period.

Henry, an ophthalmologist, graced the event in a pink gown to present the crown to her successor, Celene Hall, representing Portland. Her return marked the conclusion of her nearly nine-month reign, during which she remained largely absent from official duties. The president of the Miss Universe Jamaica organization, Mark McDermoth, expressed his joy at having Dr. Henry present to crown Hall.

The accident occurred on November 19, 2025, in Bangkok when Henry fell through an opening on the stage. According to People magazine, the incident caused an intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, as well as facial fractures and lacerations. After intensive care in Thailand and hospital discharge in March 2026, she continued medical supervision before her gradual return to public life.

Celene Hall, a 25-year-old entrepreneur and artist, was crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2026, triumphing over 33 other contestants. Hall is the first woman from Portland to achieve this title and will represent Jamaica internationally. The coronation event was attended by prominent figures from the fashion and business sectors.
