Miss Universe Chile's Response to Fetal Heartbeat Bill Praised as 'Step Backward'

Dominga López, Miss Universe Chile, has earned widespread praise not only for her performance in the pageant but also for her articulate response to a controversial bill.

Before winning the crown, López addressed the "Listen to Their Heart" bill, which would mandate that women and adolescents listen to fetal heartbeats before accessing abortion services under Chile's three-causal law. When asked if she agreed with the idea, López responded confidently.

"When we talk about abortion, we have to approach it from a place of empathy, recognizing that behind every woman who decides to have an abortion, there is a story that almost always involves pain, fear, and great vulnerability," she began. "I believe this bill is a step backward. The country has made significant progress on the issue of abortion with the three-causal law, and I think the state should focus more on support."
