Miss USA strips North Carolina queen of title over social media probe

Brittany Boltinhouse, the reigning Miss North Carolina USA 2026, has lost her crown after an internal investigation by the Miss USA organization concerning old social media posts. The title was rescinded on August 5, just over a month after Boltinhouse, who is of Honduran descent, won the pageant on June 28.

Thom Brodeur, president and CEO of Miss USA, emphasized in a statement that a title represents a position of trust. The decision to remove the crown was reportedly agreed upon by the national organization, state directors from A-Blaize Productions, and Boltinhouse herself. While Boltinhouse offered apologies and accepted responsibility, the organization maintained its decision.

The specific content of the social media posts was not disclosed, but the organization stated it has a zero-tolerance policy for racism, homophobia, and transphobia. Boltinhouse is reportedly bound by a confidentiality clause that prevents her from publicly detailing the exact reasons for her departure. Myla Hadley, the first runner-up in the state pageant, will now assume the title of Miss North Carolina USA 2026 and will represent the state at the national Miss USA pageant in Miami on August 27, with only 11 days to prepare.
