Missing B.C. hiker found dead in Alberta national park

A British Columbia hiker, Bob Toothill, was found deceased in Alberta's Waterton Lakes National Park on July 30, after failing to arrive at his intended destination. Parks Canada received a report of the missing hiker on July 23. Toothill had been traveling the Great Divide Trail between Waterton Lakes National Park and Coleman, Alberta.

A comprehensive search and rescue operation was launched, involving Parks Canada staff and the RCMP in Alberta. The daily efforts included ground and air searches, K9 units, drone pilots, specialized helicopters, and thermal imaging technology. These extensive measures aimed to locate the missing individual.

During the search, several of Toothill's personal items were discovered. These findings were crucial in helping the search teams focus their efforts on a specific section of Waterton Lakes National Park. Ultimately, searchers found Toothill deceased within the park boundaries. His next of kin have been notified.
