U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has disclosed that a fall led to his recent hospitalization, addressing the mounting speculation surrounding his health over the past weeks. The 84-year-old Republican from Kentucky stated that doctors are conducting tests to understand the cause of the fall.

McConnell explained his prolonged silence by referencing a common reticence among his generation to reveal the vulnerabilities that accompany aging. "Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct – I can't help it," he said in a statement. He also shared a photo with his wife, Elaine Chao, seemingly to counter online rumors of his death or incapacitation.

The senator is currently undergoing rehabilitation and indicated he will not return to the Senate "quite yet." Despite his absence from the floor, McConnell affirmed that he continues to engage with his staff on Senate business. His hospitalization occurred on June 14, and his office had previously offered minimal information, stating only that he was "receiving excellent care" and recovering.
