MLB results: Iván Herrera and Leonardo Bernal cap productive series against Rockies

Iván Herrera and Leonardo Bernal finished the weekend series against the Colorado Rockies with productive performances for the St. Louis Cardinals, who won 10-8 on September 6.

Herrera served as the designated hitter and collected three hits in five at-bats. He scored twice and drove in two runs, raising his batting average to .251. The Panamanian has opened September strongly, recording hits in five of his six games, including four consecutive contests.

Bernal continued the momentum he has built since making his major-league debut on September 1. He started his sixth straight game and has recorded a hit in each of them. The player from Coclé returned behind the plate on Sunday, catching for the Cardinals, and went 1-for-4 with one run and two RBIs. His batting average stands at .333.

José “Chema” Caballero entered as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning of the New York Yankees’ 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. Replacing Amed Rosario, he was caught trying to steal second base. It was the 10th time in 41 attempts this season that he had been caught trying to take an extra base. He stayed in the game at second base but did not bat.

Edmundo Sosa also made a brief appearance, pinch-hitting for Garrett Stubbs in the bottom of the ninth inning of the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the Atlanta Braves. He struck out, leaving his batting average at .233.
