MLB results: Miguel Amaya hits home run in busy day for Panamanian players

Panamanian baseball player Miguel Amaya launched his fifth home run of the 2026 Major League Baseball season on Sunday, August 16, during the Chicago Cubs' game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Amaya's solo blast in the bottom of the ninth inning was his sole hit in three at-bats, contributing his 22nd RBI of the current campaign.

Despite Amaya's effort, the Cubs ultimately lost the game to the Cardinals with a score of 11-4. In the same game, fellow Panamanian Iván Herrera went 1-for-3 for the Cardinals, scoring one run and driving in another.

Several other Panamanian players showcased their skills in MLB games. José 'Chema' Caballero recorded two hits, scored a run, and drove in another for the New York Yankees in their 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Leonardo Jiménez played first base for the Miami Marlins in their 7-1 win against the Cincinnati Reds, going 1-for-3. Edmundo Sosa played left field and shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies in their 9-1 triumph over the Minnesota Twins, achieving a 1-for-4 performance with a run scored and an RBI.
