Modi Promises Strict Punishment for Exam Cheating in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged "strict punishment" for individuals implicated in exam irregularities, following widespread protests that have shaken the nation. The controversy centers on alleged malpractices in the national medical entrance examination, NEET-UG.

In his first public statement on the matter, Modi emphasized the importance of the youth's future. "Nothing is more important than the well-being and future of our youth," he stated on the platform X. "Those who try to harm our youth's future will not be spared."

The protests gained momentum in May amid growing dissatisfaction with the education system. The situation escalated when over two million students were required to retake the medical entrance exam due to alleged discrepancies. In recent days, demonstrations have intensified, with protesters calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The government has taken steps to address the issue, including the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, which was also marred by allegations of irregularities. The Ministry of Education has established a committee to recommend reforms in the examination process to prevent future incidents.
