Mohamed Salah reveals why he joined Trabzonspor: “That’s why I’m here”

Mohamed Salah says he did not join Trabzonspor simply to add another club to an already decorated career. He came because he was still looking for something new to chase.

“I have achieved many things in my career, but I am still looking for a new challenge. That’s why I’m here,” Salah said in an interview posted on Trabzonspor’s official YouTube channel. He described motivation as something he has deliberately maintained since his youth, saying he always tries to find a new reason to keep moving forward.

The Egyptian forward said he became excited as soon as he heard of Trabzonspor’s interest. Having played for clubs such as Liverpool and Fiorentina, where football carries a powerful culture, he said he understood the difference between joining a club in a football-passionate city and moving to a capital or another major location. Before arriving, he even researched the city’s best places and food.

Salah credited president Ertuğrul Doğan’s ambition with persuading him to accept the transfer. He said Doğan spoke about the affection supporters would show him, something that reminded him of the love and respect he received during nine years at Liverpool. The scenes at the airport and the atmosphere inside the stadium exceeded his expectations.

“I am not actually a very emotional person,” Salah said, but he described the welcome as filling something that had been missing. He said few players receive such affection from supporters before even touching the ball. After the reception, former Liverpool teammates called him, and he said he remains in contact with Dominik Szoboszlai. Salah hopes the move will lead to something special in both the Turkish league and European competition.
