Mohuya Khan, a 27-year-old content creator and business owner living in Astoria, Queens, achieved remarkable financial success in 2025 by operating nine distinct income streams from her one-bedroom apartment.

Living in New York City, it’s kind of a double-edged sword. You see, everyone, for the most part, around you hustling. You see people working multiple jobs, and obviously they’re tired, but they’re just doing it because it’s kind of the normal way of living here.

Khan generated approximately $130,000 in gross revenue last year. After deducting business expenses and taxes, her net income amounted to about $70,000. Despite reaching financial independence and having no debt, Khan admitted that juggling these multiple ventures pushed her to the brink of physical and mental exhaustion. She noted that working multiple jobs is a common reality in New York City, describing it as a "double-edged sword" where hustle is the norm, but it comes at a significant personal cost.

Born in Queens to Bangladeshi immigrant parents, Khan learned the value of hard work early on. Her father worked 16-hour days as a taxi driver, and her mother encouraged her to strive harder than others. Khan began working at 15, obtained her driver's license at 16, and moved out at 22 while attending Hunter College. She pursued a degree in childhood education, funding her studies and living expenses through an after-school counseling job, student loans, and personal savings.

During the pandemic, Khan started sharing her artwork on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. As her online following grew, she honed her illustration skills through online tutorials. She eventually left her teaching career to launch her fashion brand, Labyrinthave, which blends Indo-Western and Bangladeshi design elements. Reflecting on her transition to self-employment, Khan cautioned others against impulsively pursuing passions without sufficient financial backing. "It sounds great on paper, but when you try to actually do it, and you don’t have money saved up or a stable job or income that is going to come in, it is so scary to not have that," she told Business Insider. While proud of her accomplishments, she acknowledged the immense toll it took, stating, "It motivated me. It also really burned me out."
