Turkey is an important economic partner for Moldova: the second largest destination for our exports, after Romania, and the fourth largest investor in our economy, after Romania, Germany, and France. We discussed how we can strengthen these ties – more Moldovan products on the Turkish market, new investments, and closer cooperation in the field of security.

A particularly sensitive and important topic was the development of the Gagauzia region within Moldova. Both leaders acknowledged the need to bolster this autonomous region, with specific attention paid to safeguarding the unique language and culture of the Gagauz people. This demonstrates a mutual understanding of the importance of regional development and minority rights, a nuanced issue that resonates deeply within Moldova.

Beyond the bilateral agenda, Sandu also held separate meetings with other regional leaders, including the presidents of Azerbaijan and Slovenia, and the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
