Momoa transforms into 'immoral' Lobo for 'The Flash,' fulfilling childhood dream

Jason Momoa, globally recognized for his role as Aquaman, is set to embody a drastically different character in the upcoming DC film "The Flash": the morally ambiguous bounty hunter Lobo. This transformation marks a significant departure from his heroic personas, fulfilling what he calls a "lifelong dream." Momoa undergoes an extensive three-hour makeup process daily to achieve Lobo's signature rugged appearance, complete with scars and battle marks, as well as recreating the character's iconic braided hair and rough features. He revealed that his childhood fascination with superheroes like Superman and Batman influenced his career choice, but it was Lobo, a character existing in the gray areas between good and evil, who truly captivated him for years. "Lobo has a freedom between chaos and conviction, with no morals, and that's what attracts me the most," Momoa explained. His deep-seated passion for the character is evident, as he added, "I collected all the Lobo comics as a kid. My love for this character is deeply rooted, and I always knew I had to play him." DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that Momoa had proactively expressed his strong desire to play Lobo early in the DC Universe's reboot. Gunn stated that Lobo will officially debut during "The Flash's" interstellar journey, posing a significant challenge for the film's heroes. "If you know Lobo, you know this will not be an easy encounter," Gunn teased. "The Flash" is scheduled for release on June 24 and will be available in various formats, including IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema.
