Monsoon rains and sweltering heat to hit South Korea

South Korea is bracing for a mixed weather forecast as monsoon rains are set to sweep across the nation from June 20 to 22. While some regions will experience a lull in the downpours, others, particularly the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region, can expect intense rainfall of up to 20-30 millimeters per hour.

Accompanying the rain will be a stifling heatwave, with daytime temperatures expected to reach as high as 33 degrees Celsius in some southern areas. Tropical nights, where the minimum temperature remains above 25 degrees Celsius, have already been recorded in several southern cities, and heatwave advisories are in effect for parts of both the southern and central regions.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The Korea Meteorological Administration also warned of potential flooding and advised caution, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall. Air quality is expected to remain good to moderate across the country.
