Moon Jae-in tells party hopefuls to wait until after convention

Former President Moon Jae-in has advised members vying for leadership in the upcoming Democratic Party convention to postpone their visits and requests for his endorsement until after the event concludes. Moon conveyed this message through Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Kun-young.

According to Yoon, Moon believes the party should focus on unity and finding wise solutions to current challenges to ensure the success of the current administration. Moon's stance aims to prevent any potential misunderstandings or controversies that could arise from premature engagement with convention candidates.

To prevent various speculations and misunderstandings, we plan to postpone all such visits until after the convention.

Addressing a recent, unplanned visit by former party leader Chung Chin-rae to meet Moon at the Seoul International Book Fair, Yoon stated that while such meetings are not unusual for party elders, he could not explain Chung's haste or lack of prior notice. Yoon suggested that only Chung himself would know the reasons behind his actions.

It was not a planned meeting, but it is not strange for the party leader to visit the party's elder. It is also reasonable to visit after his term has ended.

On a separate matter, Yoon commented on the prosecution's request to abolish supplementary investigation rights. He indicated that President Yoon Suk-yeol's position is understandable, aiming for complete abolition but acknowledging potential gaps. Yoon suggested that if the National Assembly can develop appropriate supplementary measures through public deliberation, the government would consider accepting them.
