More operators seek lottery license in Austria

Several international gambling corporations are vying for a lottery license in Austria, signaling growing interest in the lucrative market. Companies such as Brightstar and FDJ United have reportedly expressed their intent to enter the Austrian market, even before the official tender process for the new concession has been finalized.

This influx of interest is unsurfprising, given the profitability of the lottery business for the current concession holder, Österreichische Lotterien. The Casinos Austria subsidiary reported a net profit of approximately 109 million euros for the 2024 business year. This figure, derived from their latest financial report, primarily stems from their online gambling operations and, significantly, their lottery services.

Until the official tender is concluded, Österreichische Lotterien will continue to operate under its existing concession. The company's strong financial performance in the previous year underscores the appeal of the Austrian market to both established players and new entrants seeking to capitalize on the demand for lottery and gambling services.
