Morelos launches student transport card amid fare hikes

Morelos Governor Margarita González Saravia has introduced the "Pase Olin," an electronic card designed to support university students with their transportation costs. The card will provide a bi-monthly deposit of 1,040 pesos, intended to cover the approximate cost of two daily round trips during the school year.

The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on students commuting to their educational institutions. This announcement coincides with a recent increase in the minimum public transport fare, from 10 to 13 pesos.

"This is support directed at our youth, because we want more students to remain in university, complete their studies, and have greater opportunities to build their future," González Saravia stated during the presentation. The program will initially benefit students enrolled between their second and ninth semesters at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, the Polytechnic University of the State of Morelos, and the Technological Institutes of Zacatepec and Cuautla.

Silvia Salazar Hernández, the Secretary of Welfare, assured that funds for this initial phase are guaranteed. Registration will be conducted entirely online through the state government's official portal, with applications accepted from July 7 to 13. Applicants will need a Llave MX, official identification, proof of residency in Morelos, and documentation confirming their enrollment status.
