Morena eyes clean sweep in 2027 Mexico State elections; mayors' work key, says party chief

The Morena party in Mexico's State of Mexico is targeting a complete victory in the 2027 elections, with party president Luz María Hernández highlighting the pivotal role of municipal leaders in shaping public perception. "We are going for a clean sweep," Hernández stated in an interview, expressing confidence in the work of Morena-affiliated mayors while acknowledging the need for accountability.

She urged local authorities to maintain close ties with their constituents and uphold transparency. "I invite them to work with love for their people, to work as our postulate has instructed us, which is to be accountable with love for one's neighbor and for the homeland," she said. Hernández reminded officials that public office inherently invites scrutiny, stating, "Putting yourself in a public square indicates that you will be evaluated from top to bottom."

Maintaining internal unity and prioritizing the party's political project over personal interests or disputes are paramount, according to Hernández. "Today, the most important thing above candidacies and personal interests is the homeland first," she declared. She also outlined that individuals aspiring to become candidates must undergo various internal evaluation processes, particularly as the party has seen an influx of members from other political parties in recent years. "Morena is an open party, and of course, they go through filters; the first filter is the evaluation commission for affiliation, and now there are more filters that have to do with the sieve of whether they are worthy people to represent," she commented. The state leader asserted that Morena has 2 million militants in the State of Mexico in preparation for the 2027 electoral process.
