Valeria Rosales, the mayor of Villaflores in Chiapas, representing the Morena party, has drawn criticism for attending a football match in the VIP section of the Estadio Azteca on a workday. Videos circulating on social media show Rosales, her father Mariano Rosales (a former municipal president), and her partner celebrating Mexico's goals in the exclusive area.

The cost of VIP tickets, according to FIFA, can reach 80,000 pesos. The images of the Rosales family in the VIP zone on June 24th, a regular working day, have sparked outrage among Villaflores residents. Critics point out the apparent extravagance, especially considering that the mayor's monthly salary is reported to be 70,000 pesos, which is less than the price of a single VIP ticket.

Questions have been raised about the total expenditure for the three tickets, potentially amounting to 240,000 pesos, not including additional costs such as flights, accommodation, and transportation. The mayor has not yet issued any official statement to clarify the expenses or the circumstances of their attendance.

This incident has fueled public discontent, with many citizens expressing their disapproval of what they perceive as excessive spending by elected officials. The father of the current mayor previously held the position of municipal president from 2018 to 2024, passing the office to his daughter. There are also reports that the family might attend another match, potentially incurring further significant expenses.
