Morena Postpones Candidate Calls for Deputies and Municipalities to Late August

Mexico's ruling party, Morena, has announced a delay in its candidate selection process for key federal and municipal positions. The party's National Elections Commission, led by Citlalli Hernández, revealed that the calls for coordinators of district defense of sovereignty and transformation, as well as municipal coordinators, will now be issued at the end of August.

This postponement affects aspiring candidates for federal deputy positions and municipal presidencies. Originally scheduled to begin registration on August 3, the process has been pushed back to allow more time for identifying suitable candidates. Hernández stated that the party is currently in the final stages of selecting state coordinators, having already registered nearly 300 individuals for these roles.

"There were some dates that were public regarding the call for the other processes: the district coordinators of defense of sovereignty and transformation, and the municipal coordinators. There is expectation because tomorrow was one of the dates that had been made public; however, I want to tell you that precisely in this new stage in which we have been conducting these processes, both the party president and myself have modified some of the dates. Tomorrow there will be neither registration nor a call," Hernández declared during a live broadcast.

The stated reason for the delay is Morena's commitment to finding the most qualified individuals to secure victories in all upcoming state, federal, and local elections. The party also confirmed that state coordinations for the 17 governments up for renewal will adhere to gender parity rules. Hernández urged party members to unite behind the chosen candidates to prevent internal conflicts and emphasized that candidates with poor track records or legal issues will not be accepted.
