Moroccan cinemas generate 130 million dirhams in revenue

Morocco's film industry saw significant activity in 2025, with cinema halls generating approximately 130 million dirhams in revenue from the sale of 2.19 million tickets. This financial performance is detailed in the annual report released by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM).

National production companies demonstrated a strong commitment, investing 596.48 million dirhams in film projects. This investment was bolstered by the National Production Support Fund, which provided grants totaling 73.5 million dirhams. The CCM supported 18 feature-length narrative and documentary films, along with one long documentary and six short film projects, through pre-production advances. Post-production funding was allocated to four short films.

Furthermore, the CCM facilitated script development, offering support for scenario writing to 15 feature film projects and re-writing assistance to 13 projects in the same category. The report also highlighted specific support for documentaries focusing on culture, history, and the Hassani region, with 18 projects receiving pre-production advances, two securing post-production funding, and seven Hassani documentary projects benefiting from script re-writing support.

The sector also focused on professional development and infrastructure. The relevant ministry issued 257 professional cards across various cinematic professions, including directing, production, sound, set design, editing, and special effects. Additionally, 15.90 million dirhams were allocated from the fund for digitizing, establishing, and modernizing cinema halls, which currently operate with 87 screens across Morocco.

On the international front, Moroccan cinema made a notable presence, with films participating in 69 national film festivals and 147 international film festivals, 88 of which were in official competitions. These global engagements resulted in 37 awards across various categories, underscoring the growing international recognition of Moroccan filmmaking.
