Moroccan Defender Nayef Aguerd Nears Move to Qatar's Al-Sadd

Moroccan international defender Nayef Aguerd is reportedly on the verge of leaving French club Olympique Marseille to join Qatari side Al-Sadd. French outlet Foot Mercato reports that negotiations between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage, with an agreement expected to be reached soon.

The proposed deal is said to involve a loan for Aguerd, with Al-Sadd paying €4 million for the temporary move. Crucially, the agreement would include an obligation for the Qatari club to purchase the player for €11 million at the end of the loan period. The final step before the transfer can be completed is for Al-Sadd to agree on personal terms with the 30-year-old defender.

Aguerd's contract with Olympique Marseille extends until the summer of 2030. Initially, the French club preferred a permanent sale to improve their financial situation. However, facing difficulties in securing a direct transfer, they have reportedly shifted their stance to accommodate the loan-with-option-to-buy structure.

Aguerd joined Marseille just one year ago. He has garnered interest from several clubs during the current summer transfer window, including his former club Rennes. However, Al-Sadd appears to have moved ahead in the race to sign the player. Aguerd has made 64 appearances for the Moroccan national team and played one season with Marseille before the club opened the door for his departure as part of efforts to reduce its wage bill and rebalance its budget.
