Moroccan Socialist Youth call Ceuta events tragic, blame government policy

The Socialist Youth of the Progress and Socialism Party has labeled the events on the border between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta as tragic, attributing the casualties and injuries to the "failure of the current government's political and economic choices." The party's national office expressed deep sorrow over the "painful events" that have pushed many young Moroccans to risk their lives in irregular migration attempts. In a statement, the Socialist Youth asserted that the tragedy is not an isolated incident but a direct consequence of the government's "outrageous failure" to abandon "wild neoliberal choices." They argued that prioritizing financial balances over social ones has deepened the economic and social crisis for Moroccan youth, leading to widespread unemployment and increased class disparities. The group emphasized that combating irregular migration requires more than just security measures that position Morocco as a border guard for Europe. They called for a genuine break from current economic and social policies rooted in rentierism and marginalization. Instead, they advocated for inclusive development policies that place youth at the center, ensuring real job opportunities, quality public education, and effective training to rebuild trust between young people and state institutions. Furthermore, the Socialist Youth demanded a transparent and independent investigation to determine the full circumstances of the events and ensure accountability under the law. They extended condolences to the victims' families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, affirming the fundamental rights to life and human dignity.
