Moroccan universities attract growing number of Mauritanian students

Moroccan universities are increasingly becoming a preferred destination for Mauritanian students pursuing undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees. As the new academic season approaches, many Mauritanian students are actively seeking suitable academic pathways.

In response, the National Union of Mauritanian Students in Morocco is organizing guidance activities for high school graduates. These events, including the recent "Annual Guidance Salon," aim to familiarize students with the diverse academic programs and university options available in Morocco. Hamed Abdelaziz, the Union's new Secretary-General, stated that the salon's purpose is to inform new Mauritanian students about Moroccan universities.

Abdelaziz highlighted the Union's role in supporting students with essential information regarding university housing, inter-city travel, and navigating the specifics of various scientific disciplines offered at each institution. "New students usually need prior support regarding everything related to university housing or travel between cities in Morocco and managing the difficulties of the beginning, especially concerning the nature of the scientific specializations available within each university separately," he explained.

The Union is collaborating with Moroccan and Mauritanian partners to address these needs. Abdelaziz also emphasized the importance of maintaining a fair and transparent distribution of study seats abroad to ensure equal opportunities. A significant challenge for the upcoming academic year remains student housing, a primary concern for students at the start of the academic year, pending their accommodation in international dormitories or university housing. The high number of Mauritanian and other foreign students in Morocco contributes to these challenges, though measures regarding university scholarships are being coordinated by both Moroccan and Mauritanian authorities.
