Morocco affirms the importance of dialogue in Africa

Morocco has underscored the critical need to prioritize dialogue and implement a comprehensive, multidimensional approach to support countries navigating political transitions. The nation presented its position before the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

During the second meeting of the council's subsidiary committee on sanctions, discussions centered on political, social, and economic developments related to preventive measures against unconstitutional government changes. The Moroccan delegation stressed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue with the countries in transition.

The delegation highlighted that informal consultations with nations undergoing political transitions foster a better understanding of their realities, priorities, and the challenges they face in managing their transitional processes. Morocco advocated for strengthening this mechanism and ensuring its continuity to allow for regular monitoring of political transitions and to keep communication channels open.

Furthermore, Morocco emphasized the necessity of placing development at the core of supporting countries in transition, aligning with the principle of interconnectedness between peace, security, and development. The nation also stressed the importance of ensuring the consistent implementation of the African Union's operational programs in these countries, particularly those directly benefiting the population in areas such as health, agriculture, and education.

The Moroccan delegation also drew attention to the role of the African Facility for Inclusive Transitions (AFSIT) in supporting stability and development efforts. They called for enhancing AFSIT's resources, visibility, and effectiveness.
