Morocco and Djibouti Ink Parliamentary Cooperation Pact

In a significant step towards deepening bilateral ties, the Council of Representatives of Morocco and the National Assembly of Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on parliamentary cooperation. This landmark agreement, inked in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, signifies a shared commitment to bolstering the relationship between our two legislative institutions.

This memorandum of understanding constitutes a practical framework for guiding joint parliamentary work, and I look forward to this document being a starting point for strengthening parliamentary support for the dynamic of distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries.

As articulated by Mohamed Ould Al-Rachid, President of the Moroccan Council of Representatives, this MoU provides a practical framework for joint parliamentary action. He expressed a strong desire for this document to serve as a catalyst for enhanced parliamentary support to the distinguished dynamic of relations between our two brotherly nations. The agreement outlines joint initiatives aimed at fostering greater exchange in parliamentary work and unifying efforts, visions, and stances on common issues. President Ould Al-Rachid underscored that the relationship between Morocco and Djibouti is built on mutual respect, appreciation, and a convergence of views on numerous regional and international matters.

Morocco views with great appreciation the position that the Republic of Djibouti occupies in its regional environment, and its role in supporting stability, openness, and cooperation in the Horn of Africa.

President Ould Al-Rachid further emphasized Morocco's high regard for Djibouti's standing in its regional sphere and its role in promoting stability, openness, and cooperation in the Horn of Africa. He reiterated the Kingdom of Morocco's firm belief, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, that effective African solidarity and South-South cooperation can only achieve their full potential with robust institutional support, where parliaments play a crucial role as partners in building trust, supporting development, and defending the supreme interests of our peoples.

He noted that this partnership is founded on the bonds of brotherhood and South-South solidarity, reflecting a shared will to enhance cooperation across various sectors. President Dileita described the signing of the MoU as a "historic stage" in the trajectory of bilateral relations, establishing an institutional mechanism to elevate this cooperation to broader horizons. He stressed the shared objective of advancing South-South cooperation to a "exemplary level" based on trust and mutual respect, thereby serving common interests and contributing to greater integration among African nations. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral parliamentary capacities through the exchange of expertise and joint training programs.
