Morocco considers strengthening air defenses with Israel’s David’s Sling

Morocco’s air and missile defenses may be entering a new phase of modernization, with specialized defense reports pointing to Moroccan interest in Israel’s David’s Sling system.

The reported move reflects Rabat’s effort to build a layered defense network by combining systems and weapons technologies from different sources. That broader modernization path includes American, Israeli, Chinese and French technology.

According to defense reports published in August 2026, Morocco has expressed interest in David’s Sling as well as other systems and missiles developed by Israeli defense company Rafael. The reports also stress that this interest does not necessarily mean Morocco has made a final decision to sign a contract.

David’s Sling was developed through Israeli-American cooperation to intercept tactical ballistic threats, cruise missiles and airborne targets. It operates as part of a wider missile-defense umbrella alongside systems such as Arrow and Iron Dome. If Morocco’s reported interest becomes an actual deal, the system would add a significant new capability to the country’s arsenal.
