Morocco edges Scotland 1-0 with early goal to top World Cup group

Morocco clinched a vital three points in Group C of the World Cup on Saturday, defeating Scotland 1-0. The decisive goal came remarkably early in the match, scored just over a minute after kickoff at Boston Stadium in the USA.

Real Madrid's Brahim Díaz provided a brilliant assist, playing Ismael Saibari through on goal. Saibari, who is expected to transfer to Bayern Munich from PSV Eindhoven soon, made no mistake, firing the ball past the Scottish goalkeeper. Morocco dominated much of the first half, creating several chances within Scotland's penalty area, while the Scottish team failed to register a single shot on goal.

Morocco, semifinalists in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, exerted significant pressure on Scotland. Bilal El Khannous of Stuttgart had an opportunity to extend the lead in the first half but couldn't control the ball properly, sending his shot high over the bar.

Scotland increased their intensity and physicality in the second half, pushing for an equalizer. However, Morocco's Saibari nearly scored his second goal early in the second half, but his shot was blocked by the Scottish defense and hit the crossbar. Scotland's best chance fell to Ryan Christie in the middle of the second half, but his long-range effort lacked the necessary sharpness and went just over the frame.

Scottish players felt they were denied several penalties as they sought an equalizer, but the referee did not rule in their favor. Scott McTominay of Napoli was involved in several late chances, including hitting the side netting, but Scotland could not find the back of the net. This victory propels Morocco to the top of Group C with four points. Brazil, playing Haiti later, could also reach four points with a win. Scotland has three points and faces Brazil in their final group match.
