Morocco Inaugurates Development Projects in Border Region with Algeria

Moroccan authorities have launched several development initiatives in the eastern province of Figuig, near the border with Algeria, as part of the celebrations for the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day. These projects focus on economic empowerment, human capital development, and improving maternal healthcare.

One key inauguration was the opening of an economic empowerment and training center in the commune of Beni Kil. This project, costing 350,000 dirhams, was implemented under the second program of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), which focuses on supporting vulnerable individuals. The center aims to provide skills and opportunities to local residents.

Additionally, a maternity home was inaugurated in the Boumeryem commune. This facility, built under the fourth program of the INDH, which targets human capital development for future generations, cost a total of 3.65 million dirhams. The INDH contributed 2.35 million dirhams, with the Provincial Council and the National Agency for the Development of Oases and Argan Areas each providing 0.65 million dirhams. The regional committee also allocated 0.15 million dirhams for its operational costs and provided an ambulance.

The maternity home is designed to significantly reduce maternal and newborn mortality rates. It will offer a safe environment for childbirth, provide accommodation and meals for expectant mothers for four days prior to delivery, and coordinate care with local health and social protection services. During the visit, 100 new mothers received delivery kits as part of the initiative's focus on maternal and child health.
