Morocco issues new gold and silver coins for national celebrations

Morocco's central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib, has approved the issuance of new commemorative coins through recent decrees published in the Official Gazette. These decrees authorize the minting of six coins in total, divided into three sets, each celebrating a significant national event. The coins include 1000 dirham gold pieces and 250 dirham silver pieces.

The first set commemorates the 63rd birthday of King Mohammed VI. According to decree No. 2.26.409, dated July 23, 2026, the gold coin (1000 dirhams) is composed of 916.7 parts per thousand gold (approximately 22 carats) and weighs 39.94 grams, with a diameter of 38.61 millimeters. The design features a portrait of King Mohammed VI, inscriptions in Arabic and Tifinagh, and the year of issue. The silver coin (250 dirhams) for this occasion shares similar design elements but has a different face value inscription.

The second set of coins, approved by decree No. 2.26.410, marks the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's ascension to the throne. The gold and silver coins for this celebration maintain the same specifications and general design as the birthday coins, but the inscriptions on the reverse side specifically reference the "27th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne." The third set celebrates the first anniversary of the Day of Unity, as detailed in decree No. 2.26.411.
