Morocco's Director General of National Security, Hicham Zaitouni, Dies at 60s

Morocco's Director General of National Security, Hicham Zaitouni, passed away on Thursday evening, August 20, 2026, at the military hospital in Rabat. His death marks the end of a distinguished career that spanned more than four decades within the National Security services.

The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) announced his passing on Friday, acknowledging Zaitouni's significant contributions. The DGSN stated that the late official left a mark through his dedicated service to the security family, the nation's security, and its citizens. He held several key responsibilities, notably serving as the head of the Marrakech security wilayah before assuming his final role as Director General of National Security.

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance extended his deepest condolences to Zaitouni's family, offering prayers for his soul and for his family's strength and patience during this difficult time. He also directed officials from central directorates and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works for National Security Employees to provide necessary support to the bereaved family.
