Morocco's PM Akhannouch: Social Dialogue a Political Imperative, Government Delivers on Promises

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch underscored the strategic importance of social dialogue, framing it as a foundational political commitment rather than a reactive measure. Speaking at the April 2026 session of social dialogue, he emphasized its role in evaluating the government's achievements and reaffirming its dedication to its partners.

Social dialogue has never been a circumstantial choice or a temporary response, but rather a clear political orientation adopted since the beginning of the government's term as a central mechanism for producing solutions and strengthening trust with social and economic partners.

Akhannouch detailed the government's efforts to translate dialogue into tangible outcomes, particularly in bolstering citizens' purchasing power and improving incomes. He noted that since the current government's term began, significant steps have been taken, including raising the minimum wage in the public sector and implementing substantial increases in the private sector, alongside reforms to pension benefits. These measures aim to address chronic imbalances and create new professional opportunities.

The government has been keen to transform social dialogue from mere discussions into tangible results that reflect on citizens' incomes and their purchasing power.

The Prime Minister also highlighted key achievements in specific sectors. In education, substantial salary increases have been implemented for teachers, alongside a new framework for academic staff. The health sector has also seen improvements, with salary hikes for medical professionals. Furthermore, tax reforms, including an increased tax exemption threshold, are designed to directly support household incomes, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to economic well-being and social justice.

On the level of the public sector, the net minimum wage was raised to 3500 dirhams, then to 4500 dirhams, with the elimination of the seventh scale, raising the promotion quota to 36%, and improving family allowances.
