Morocco's Scientific Police Lab Earns Global Quality Certification

Morocco's National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police has achieved a significant international milestone, securing accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. This certification, awarded by the American National Accreditation Board (ANSI National Accreditation Board), validates the lab's expertise across a wide range of forensic disciplines. These include biology, chemistry, document analysis, fire and explosives investigation, digital forensics, and toxicology.

The rigorous auditing process involved international experts who meticulously reviewed the lab's structural, technical, and security standards. They assessed the lab's commitment to quality in forensic examinations, adherence to scientific and professional ethics, and the safeguarding of personal data and experimental results. The audit also scrutinized the management of infrastructure, human resources, scientific procedures, and information systems.

This accreditation represents the culmination of a long-term strategy initiated by the Directorate General for National Security in 2016. The initiative focused on modernizing the scientific police system to better integrate scientific evidence into fair trial processes and uphold public rights and freedoms. The lab's enhanced capabilities are crucial for improving the effectiveness of investigations into new types of crimes that utilize advanced technologies and criminal methods.

The achievement is further underscored by the inauguration of a state-of-the-art laboratory in Casablanca. This facility boasts integrated infrastructure and advanced equipment aligned with international standards for criminal investigation. The lab's success in maintaining its global quality certification for the eighth consecutive time, while expanding its scope, highlights its dedication to excellence and its vital role in Morocco's justice system.
