Morocco: Wildfire in Azilal Forest Continues for Fourth Day

Efforts to extinguish the "Anafk fire" in Azilal, Morocco, are in their fourth day, with a continuous mobilization of security, military, and civil services. The blaze, which started Friday in the Anafk forest near Afourar, is being fought by ground teams supported by two Canadair firefighting aircraft. While these intensive interventions have reduced the fire's spread, high temperatures and strong winds have reignited several hotspots, requiring ongoing efforts.

A regional committee convened Monday to assess the situation and coordinate the response. Participants emphasized continued cooperation and the deployment of necessary human and logistical resources until the fire is fully controlled, protecting lives, property, and the forest.

Local volunteers from nearby villages have joined the firefighting efforts, assisting in containing the flames, especially given the difficult terrain. The community has been called upon to support these efforts to mitigate damage to the forest.

Logistically, the regional directorate of education in Azilal has provided accommodation at a local high school for public forces involved in the firefighting. Relevant services continue to monitor the situation and implement necessary measures until the fire is completely extinguished.
