Mother of Nahel Merzouk's car involved in Paris hit-and-run; nephew sought

The vehicle owned by the mother of Nahel Merzouk, whose death in June 2023 ignited nationwide riots, was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run incident in Paris in early January. The driver at the time is alleged to have been Nahel's nephew, who is now the subject of a police search warrant.

According to sources close to the investigation, the nephew was driving the car when the incident occurred. Nahel's mother, Mounia Merzouk, reportedly informed police that her nephew was behind the wheel. The young man, who resides in the Hauts-de-Seine department, was summoned by police but failed to appear at the station.

Authorities attempted to apprehend him at his residence last week, but he was not present. He is now wanted for "failure to obey." Investigators are reportedly not ruling out any possibilities regarding who was driving the vehicle during the January incident. Nahel's death, caused by a police officer during a traffic stop following a pursuit, led to significant unrest and violence throughout France.
