Motorcyclist critically injured in Kaohsiung's "Nanzhi Bermuda Triangle"

A serious motorcycle accident has occurred in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, within an area notorious for its dangerous road conditions, earning it the nickname "Nanzhi Bermuda Triangle." A 62-year-old man, identified by the surname Hu, was riding his motorcycle through the Chaoyang Road underpass when he reportedly fell.

Emergency services responded to the scene, where the rider was found with severe injuries. He had sustained head trauma and initially lost vital signs. Paramedics were able to restore his heartbeat, and he was rushed to intensive care, where he remains under critical care. The accident occurred during the evening rush hour, causing significant traffic disruptions.

The "Nanzhi Bermuda Triangle" is known for its complex intersection design, where traffic from five directions converges, alongside waterways and railway lines. This intricate layout has created numerous hazardous points and confusing lane configurations, contributing to its dangerous reputation.

Investigators are examining the crash site, and due to the absence of surveillance cameras in the immediate area, they are relying on physical evidence. Preliminary findings suggest a self-inflicted fall. Authorities plan to conduct an alcohol test via a blood draw from the hospital. The Nanzhi Precinct police are urging all road users to exercise caution, reduce speed, and adhere to traffic signs and markings, especially within the underpass, to ensure collective road safety.
