Mourinho to Return to Real Madrid if Pérez Wins Presidency, Candidate Announces

Florentino Pérez, a candidate for the Real Madrid presidency, has declared that José Mourinho will return as the club's coach should Pérez win the upcoming election. The announcement came via a video released by Pérez's campaign team on June 3, just under a week before the election scheduled for June 7. Pérez, who has been president since 2006, is facing opposition from Enrique Riquelme, a Spanish businessman in the renewable energy sector. Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid for three seasons, from 2010 to 2013, during which he secured one Copa del Rey, one La Liga title, and one Supercopa de España. The election follows a season without trophies for the club. Riquelme has raised concerns about the electoral process, suggesting actions have favored Pérez's candidacy and expressing distrust in the mail-in voting system. However, the Electoral Board has refuted accusations of political bias and clarified the voting procedures. Pérez, in his campaign video, also reiterated his commitment to ensuring Real Madrid remains the property of its members. "I commit that Real Madrid Club de Fútbol will always belong to its members and I will continue working, likewise, always for its members," he stated. The election marks the first time since 2006 that Real Madrid has held a presidential election.
