Mudflow on Balykchy–Karakol road leaves one dead, another missing

Traffic has been restored on the Balykchy–Ananyevo–Karakol road in Kyrgyzstan after a mudflow occurred on the evening of June 5. However, the incident resulted in one fatality and left another person missing, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Road maintenance crews worked through the night, utilizing special equipment to clear the affected section of the road at the 92nd kilometer. By 00:52 a.m., the roadway was cleared enough to resume traffic in both directions. Efforts are continuing to widen and fully clear the road to ensure safe passage for vehicles.

The mudflow swept away a Mercedes Sprinter van, a Ford Mondeo, and two men. The body of one man was discovered shortly before midnight. Search operations for the second missing man are actively underway. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the situation remains under the personal supervision of Minister Kanatbek Chynybaev, who visited the scene to coordinate recovery efforts and assign tasks to relevant services.

The ministry emphasized that public safety and the swift elimination of the emergency's consequences are top priorities. Rescue and search operations are ongoing.
