Mudryk returns after 20-month suspension as Juventus beat Chelsea 1-0

Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk marked his return to competitive action after a 20-month suspension by appearing as a substitute in the club's 1-0 friendly defeat against Juventus in Hong Kong. The Ukraine international entered the match in the 82nd minute at Kai Tak Stadium, receiving a warm reception from the 43,000 spectators.

Mudryk's comeback follows the conclusion of his suspension for testing positive for the banned substance meldonium. His last appearance for Chelsea was in November 2024, when he scored in a Conference League match. Since joining Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, his career has been significantly impacted by this ban.

During his brief cameo, the 25-year-old showed flashes of his attacking intent, nearly connecting with a through-ball and actively pressing opponents on the left wing. Fans showed their support, with many wearing shirts bearing his name and number, and messages celebrating his return were displayed on stadium screens.

Despite Mudryk's return, Chelsea recorded their second consecutive loss under new manager Xabi Alonso. Juventus secured the victory with a superb curling strike from Edon Zhegrova in the 68th minute. Chelsea created several chances but failed to convert, while Nicolas Jackson also made his first appearance for the club in over a year before being substituted.
