Mullings retains national discus throw title

Ralford Mullings successfully defended his senior discus throw title at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) national championships on Saturday. Competing at the National Stadium, Mullings secured his victory with a throw of 64.31 meters, earning him a coveted spot on Jamaica's team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in July.

Mullings, who also holds the national record in the event, recently achieved back-to-back NCAA Division One outdoor titles for the University of Oklahoma. During the national championships, he recorded two legal marks, demonstrating consistent performance.

Fedrick Dacres, the 2018 Commonwealth champion, secured the second position with a throw of 62.97 meters. Racquil Broderick, who finished behind Mullings at the NCAA championships, placed third with a season's best throw of 62.87 meters.

Meanwhile, Chad Wright's aspirations of representing Jamaica in two sports at the Commonwealth Games were dashed. Wright, who had achieved a personal best of 67.92 meters in April, finished fourth in the discus competition with a best throw of 60.55 meters.
