Munich Luxury Hotel Expels Libertarian Organization Over 'Anti-Democratic' Accusations

Munich's prestigious Bayerischer Hof hotel has terminated its 13-year venue agreement with the Ludwig-von-Mises-Institut Deutschland (MID), a libertarian organization. The decision comes after a research report by the Munich newspaper "Abendzeitung" raised concerns about the MID's alleged anti-democratic stance and its promotion of ideas that question the foundations of a free society.

The hotel, a renowned venue that hosts dignitaries and the annual Munich Security Conference, stated that it stands for "openness, tolerance, diversity, and the fundamental values of a free and democratic society." Following the "Abendzeitung's" findings regarding "numerous public statements" made by MID representatives, the Bayerischer Hof concluded that continuing the collaboration "no longer appears justifiable."

The Ludwig-von-Mises-Institut Deutschland, founded in 2012, draws inspiration from the 20th-century economist and philosopher Ludwig von Mises. The institute advocates for a free market economy and a minimal state, arguing that most functions beyond protecting individuals from harm and upholding private property should be handled privately. They view state intervention in economic and social life as counterproductive.
