Murder probe as two people dead in house fire in Middlesbrough

A murder investigation is underway after two people were discovered dead following a house fire in Middlesbrough. The incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting a significant response from emergency services.

The property in the Grangetown area suffered extensive damage, with the roof caving in and support beams exposed. Redcar and Cleveland Local Policing Commander Supt Emily Harrison stated that officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of the fire. A high visibility police presence will be maintained in the area to reassure the local community, which is expected to be impacted by the tragedy.

The fire took place about two miles from the site of a separate fatal road crash that occurred on Saturday morning. That incident involved a collision between a car and two police vehicles on the A66, resulting in the deaths of five young men and two police officers. Redcar MP Anna Turley urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work safely and expressed her thoughts for those affected and the emergency services.

The families of the two individuals who died in the fire have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. The investigation is ongoing.
