Museveni clears return of Nation Media Group operations in Uganda

Nation Media Group's (NMG) operations in Uganda are set to resume following authorization by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The announcement came from Taifa Group, which described the decision as a positive development for regional investment, media advancement, and the integration of East African nations.

Taifa Group, the majority shareholder of NMG via its subsidiary Taarifa Limited, issued a statement from Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The group emphasized its commitment to responsible investment, strong corporate governance, and sustainable development throughout the region. The resumption of operations is considered a key milestone for the media company, which has a presence in multiple East African markets.

Taifa Group Chairman Mr. Rostam Azizi specifically thanked President Museveni for granting the authorization. He also extended his appreciation to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, for his supportive role during the discussions that led to this decision. The company views this as an honor and a testament to the collaborative efforts that facilitated the return of NMG's operations.
