Musical 'Elisabeth' Returns for Sixth Season, Premiering in August

The acclaimed musical 'Elisabeth' is set to captivate audiences once again with its sixth season, scheduled to open on August 16. The production, a staple in the musical theater scene, will run for an extended period, concluding on November 15 at the Blue Square Woori Bank Hall in Seoul.

Produced by EMK Musical Company, 'Elisabeth' delves into the complex inner world of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth. It portrays the profound loneliness and yearning for freedom that lay beneath the surface of her imperial life. A central theme is the enigmatic relationship between the Empress and the personification of 'Death' (Der Tod), adding a layer of dark romance and philosophical depth to the narrative.

Since its premiere in Vienna in 1992, 'Elisabeth' has achieved global recognition, with productions staged in over ten languages and attracting more than 12.5 million viewers worldwide. Its debut in Korea in 2012 was met with significant success, and this upcoming season marks its fifth run in the country, following previous successful seasons up to 2022.

To herald the new season, the production company released the first teaser video on the same day the announcement was made. The video offers a glimpse of the elaborate sets that will be featured in the upcoming performances. While the cast members, who appeared as silhouettes in the teaser, are yet to be revealed, anticipation is building for the full cast announcement.
