Musician releases song dedicated to Luka Modrić ahead of key match

Croatian musician Jure Brkljača has released a new song, "Kapetan" (Captain), as a tribute to Luka Modrić, widely regarded as the greatest Croatian footballer. The song aims to celebrate the values of national pride, unity, and perseverance, even in the face of adversity.

I am from Zadar, like Luka, and I am a big fan of our captain and the Vatreni. I am extremely proud of everything Luka does for our national team year after year and I wanted to do what I could – record this song in his honor, but also in honor of the coach and all our greats and players.

Released just before a crucial match against Panama, "Kapetan" features an infectious chorus and a message that resonates long after listening. Brkljača, who hails from Zadar like Modrić, expressed his deep admiration for the footballer and his contributions to the Croatian national team. He stated that the song was created spontaneously, with the entire team giving their best to record it quickly.

The song was created on the go, without much planning, and we all did our best to record it as soon as possible across multiple cities.

"I am from Zadar, like Luka, and I am a big fan of our captain and the Vatreni," Brkljača said. "I am extremely proud of everything Luka does for our national team year after year and I wanted to do what I could – record this song in his honor, but also in honor of the coach and all our greats and players." He added that he hopes Modrić continues to play for at least one more championship, and that the song's simple message is that "when we are together, we can do anything."

I know we will all be very sad when Luka ends his career for our national team and in this way I want to show gratitude for all the beautiful moments we have experienced with him.

The song's lyrics, written by Ivana Belošević and music by Belošević and Ivan Pešut, are described as a fan anthem and a universal life story. "Kapetan" is intended to evoke emotions that are easily relatable, regardless of the listening occasion. The production, including arrangement, mix, and master, was handled by Ivan Pešut, a recipient of 12 Porin awards.
