Musk Super PAC Wades Into U.S. Midterms With $800,000 for Republicans in Close Races

Elon Musk’s political operation has entered the 2026 U.S. midterm races with more than $800,000 in spending for Republican candidates facing tight contests. America PAC disclosed the spending in a filing late Wednesday, marking its first reported expenditure for the election.

The super PAC directed the largest share of its money to Texas, where Musk’s SpaceX is headquartered and operates several rocket and Starlink facilities. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton received $247,595 for his Senate campaign against Democrat James Talarico, who has held a narrow lead in public opinion polls since mid-April, according to election tracker Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin.

Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins received $170,224 in campaign support. Collins, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, is competing against Democrat Troy Jackson in a closely watched race. In Ohio, America PAC spent $105,675 on materials for Republican Senator Jon Husted, who is defending his seat against former Senator Sherrod Brown.

The committee controls federal spending and oversees funding connected to some of Musk’s government contracts through SpaceX. America PAC also supported Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which oversees the Pentagon and projects involving Musk’s space, satellite and artificial intelligence companies. Other beneficiaries included Republican House members serving on the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security committees.

The filing identified the spending as printing, indicating direct-mail pieces, postcards, door hangers, canvassing literature and yard signs. America PAC holds a reported $50 million war chest supplied by Musk and has set a potential funding target of up to $120 million, according to The New York Times. A spokesperson for the PAC declined to comment, and SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
