Mutfwang condemns attack on Plateau community

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has strongly condemned a recent attack on the Bin-mper community in Mangu Local Government Area, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable. The attack, which occurred on the night of Monday, August 18, reportedly claimed the lives of 24 people, including women and children.

During a condolence visit to the community, Governor Mutfwang expressed profound grief and acknowledged the government's responsibility in failing to protect its citizens. He characterized the killings as a "barbaric, senseless and evil display on innocent lives," adding that the attack was also an assault on his administration and its resolve to ensure security.

Mutfwang assured the community that his administration would bolster existing security measures to prevent further attacks on vulnerable areas. He pledged to intensify efforts to secure the state and foster an environment conducive to prosperity and well-being. The governor also vowed that perpetrators would not succeed in taking over ancestral lands, promising to use all available powers to ensure residents remain on their land. He mentioned that some suspects had been arrested and assured that the government would pursue the matter to its conclusion.

Earlier, Governor Mutfwang met with the traditional ruler, Da. Putmang Hirse, accompanied by Mrs. Abiodun Esiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement. Mutfwang conveyed President Bola Tinubu's support and assured intensified efforts to combat insurgency in Plateau. Esiet urged stakeholders to prioritize peace for the state's development. Responding, Hirse described the attack as senseless and deliberate, expressing shock that such an event could occur in Mangu, which he noted was typically peaceful.
