Mutfwang urges Northern leaders to make education a priority in tackling Almajiri system

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang says Northern leaders must put education at the center of efforts to address the Almajiri system, which he described as a threat to the region’s economic and human development.

Mutfwang made the call in Demsa, Adamawa State, while speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha. The event also marked the unveiling of library and administrative buildings at the Lutheran University of Nigeria, constructed with Mustapha’s personal resources.

Late Tafawa Balewa established a church because he knew that the church propagated education, and through education, society thrives, peace and economic development take place in communities.

The Plateau governor also praised the church’s contribution to education and community development. He cited the late Prime Minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa’s support for establishing churches, saying they helped spread education and promote peace and economic development. Mutfwang noted that the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria was the third member of the TEKAN bloc to establish a university, after NKST and COCIN.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri also commended Mustapha. He said Mustapha could have invested his money in personal projects such as housing estates, but instead used it to build the university’s library and administrative blocks. Fintiri urged other accomplished people from Adamawa to follow the example and invest in education and human development.
