Mysterious Allergy Outbreak Affects Over 20 Students at La Chorrera School

Dozens of students at the C.E.B.G. Federico "Yico" Velásquez school in La Chorrera, Panama, have developed mysterious skin rashes. The outbreak began Tuesday night, affecting students primarily in first grade, with some cases reported in fourth and sixth grades. Parents noticed the eruptions on the children's arms and chests and alerted school authorities.

School director Dalida Cedeño stated that the cause is currently unknown. A doctor who examined some students diagnosed dermatitis. Another health center suggested a bacterial infection linked to heat and sun exposure, but Cedeño expressed uncertainty about the situation's origin. Despite the unexplained ailment, classes at the school, which serves over 600 students from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade across two shifts, have not been suspended.

However, the school administration has instructed parents to keep any children exhibiting symptoms at home. Health authorities are scheduled to conduct an inspection of the educational facility to determine the potential causes of the skin condition. Additionally, a fumigation of the entire area is planned for the upcoming weekend.
