Mysterious figures disappear into New York's sewers, baffling police

Mysterious figures have been observed entering and exiting New York's vast sewer system, leaving authorities baffled and prompting investigations. In one incident in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, seven individuals emerged from a maintenance hatch early on a Friday morning, with one nearly hit by a car. Similar events have occurred in Gravesend, Brooklyn, and Queens, involving groups emerging from or disappearing into sewer access points at various times of day and night.

Despite thorough searches, the New York Police Department has found no evidence of vandalism or any immediate danger to the public. The city's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has also inspected the sites and confirmed no damage to the infrastructure. "It is illegal to be in the sewer system and sewers can contain many dangers," warned DEP spokesperson Rob Wolejsza, citing toxic gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks, and confined spaces as reasons the public should never enter.
